ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A house fire in Penn Yan has claimed the life of a 12-year-old, a dog, and left an elderly grandmother in the hospital.

On September 19, around 7:36 a.m., Penn Yan emergency responders went to a fire on Cornwell Street after a call of a structure fire came from a 12-year-old boy who was inside the house. When they arrived, Officers attempted to get into the home but were abe due to heavy smoke and flames.

The boy awoke to find the house on fire and tried to alert his grandma before being overcome by the smoke and fire.
