ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Republican leaders gathered in Brockport Tuesday to address concerns over the prolonged closure of the Main Street Bridge and construction delays.
The Main Street Bridge was supposed to be completed in September of last year, but ongoing delays have impacted local businesses, leading to a drop in customers.
Business owners have reported a decline in customer traffic due to the bridge closure, and lawmakers are advocating for these businesses to receive compensation from fines imposed on the construction company.
The State of New York is withholding $7,000 per day from the contractor for each day the Brockport project has been stalled since last October. To date, officials say the total amount withheld exceeds $2 million.
