MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- A longtime Grand Strand photographer and historian was presented the Order of the Palmetto award on Sunday as officials and friends gathered at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot to celebrate "Jack Thompson Day."
The Order of the Palmetto is the highest award a civilian can receive in South Carolina.
Thompson, who turned 89 on Sunday, has made an impact on the Grand Strand and city of Myrtle Beach for decades that few can match.
"Jack was a photographer for me when I was 7, 8 years old," said Dino Thompson, a friend of Jack's. "But he's been a friend for all those years, and we've commiserated on several different projects here in Myrtle Beach."
