A small earthquake hit southern Maine on Sunday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 1.9 magnitude quake hit at 9:18 a.m. Sunday near Lake Arrowhead, over 6 miles underground.

As of Monday, over 80 people had reported that they felt the earthquake , including one report as far north as South Paris, one as far east as Penobscot County and one as far south as New Haven, Connecticut.

Maine is not typically associated with significant seismic activity, according to News Center Maine . Most earthquakes in the state are too small to feel, and large, damaging quakes are incredibly rare.
