ELYRIA, Ohio — The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a phone scam targeting members of the community with false threats of arrest and demands for money.
Several residents have reported receiving calls from individuals posing as law enforcement officers, according to a news release. The callers claim the person failed to appear for a court hearing and that warrants have been issued for their arrest.
In one instance, a scammer instructed a resident to visit the Sheriff’s Office to verify a signature, then demanded payment of a fee. When questioned, the caller abruptly hung up.
