NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A community blood drive in Northampton, organized by Cooley Dickinson Hospital and several other medical institutions, is providing essential blood donations to patients in need.

The drive, which took place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, was a joint effort involving Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center.

"Blood is just a precious commodity," said Cathy Reed, Executive Director of Operations at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. "We don't have a donor program here at Cooley, but being part of the system gives us the opportunity to have this blood mobile be here for our community."
