PEORIA, Ill. – A teenager will be tried as an adult in connection to a July shooting incident during a sales transaction in Central Peoria.

The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 17-year-old Zymere Wright will remain in custody until trial after a hearing on Monday. Wright was arrested last Thursday and is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

Prosecutors say the shooting occurred the evening of July 19th in the area of Renwood and Gilbert.

A 19-year-old victim told police that he arranged to sell a pair of shoes to Wright through Snapchat.

During the transaction, Wright allegedly asked to borrow the victim’s phone to reverse the CashApp transaction, with the victim reportedly shot by Wright when he tried to take his phone back.
