FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A person is dead after contracting West Nile Virus (WNV) in Fresno County, the department of public health announced Monday.

According to the WNV incidence report for 2025, this is the state's third death related to WNV.

A total of 43 people have been infected throughout the state so far this year. On June 23, the Tulare County Public Health Department reported a man had died after contracting the virus in Tulare County.

While only eight cases have been reported in Fresno County since Aug. 8, the county says that it expects to see more infections as the mosquito season can last through the end of October.
