CHICO — After various complaints to the Chico City Council from neighbors of the alternative site, Councilor Mike O’Brien moved to put the site on the agenda.
At the Sept. 16 council meeting, Public Works Director Erik Gustafson gave a presentation on the camp detailing its challenges and progress. After hearing from Gustafson and discussing the site, the council directed city staff to bring new ideas for how to manage the camp at the next meeting Oct. 7.
The camp was established in 2022 as part of the Warren v. Chico settlement agreement for homeless people who do not qualify for the Torres Shelter or the Genesis housing site. This includes people who have committed a violent felony, are sex offenders or have more than two dogs.
