MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — A new report from the West Virginia University Police Department shows an increase in burglaries, domestic violence and stalking, while other major crime categories remained largely in line with last year's statistics.

The 2024 Clery Act report, which covers crime on and near WVU campuses, found that burglaries increased from 10 in 2023 to 25 in 2024. Domestic violence reports rose from 24 to 32, and stalking increased from 24 to 42.

"Many of the reported instances of stalking stemmed from unwanted contact following breakups or other relationship issues,” WVU Police Chief Sherry St. Clair said.

St. Clair emphasized the police force’s commitment to safety.
