A former Hickory firefighter convicted of possessing child pornography is set to be sentenced for his crime in federal court on Tuesday (Sept. 23).

Nate Eli Kurzak, of Hickory, pleaded guilty to possession and access with intent to view child pornography involving prepubescent minors on Feb. 19, according to court documents.

Kurzak was initially charged locally with 10 counts of second-degree exploitation and 10 counts third-degree sexual exploitation in October 2023.
