KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Police Department has a new policy in effect. All police cruisers must keep their blue lights continually on as they patrol.

“Lighting our KCPD police cars with a blue light makes sure we show we’re in the area and present for Kansas Citians,” KCPD Chief Stacey Graves said.

Drivers who see a cruiser behind them with steady blue lights need not worry, but when red and blue lights flash, it’s time to pull over.

The policy comes after recent violent crime throughout the Kansas City area, namely a double homicide off 13th and Grand last month, among a plethora of other issues.

Mayor Quinton Lucas explained the city is trying to amplify police presence in all parts of the community.
