(FOX40.COM) — California State University, Sacramento, is scheduled to officially open its brand new Basic Needs Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The pantry, located inside the university's wellness center known as The WELL, provides basic necessities such as toiletries, clothing, vegetables, fresh fruit and frozen meat, along with diapers and toddler clothes for students who are parents.
University officials said that the $550,000 project took 20 months to complete and was created after an on-campus study showed that students have the money to pay for transportation, but not food.
The lack of food caused health issues for the students, including low blood sugar and dizziness, according to the study.
