PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A new program designed to strengthen private forests against pests, diseases, and climate change is offering Pennsylvania landowners up to $25,000.

The PA Woodland Resilience Enhancement Network (PWREN) was launched by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Bureau of Forestry and Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Over 70% of Pennsylvania forests are privately owned, and PWREN wants to help protect clean water, wildlife habitat and the long-term health of forests.

PWREN is open to landowners with between 10 and 2,500 acres of forest anywhere in Pennsylvania. Support may include: • Managing brush or weeds • Improving forest stands • Releasing crop trees (helping the best trees grow) • Treating invasive pests • Planting extra
