OU football will be without starting quarterback John Mateer for the foreseeable future after the Heisman hopeful suffered a hand injury Sept. 20 against Auburn .

The school announced Tuesday, Sept. 23, that Mateer will have surgery on Wednesday.

Michael Hawkins Jr. will start at QB for the Sooners against Kent State on Oct. 4
