OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Solid Waste Director Mark Johnson says the fee will go from $87 to $215
County officials approved this in their meeting on Monday night. Johnson tells TV20 that residents were paying the $87 for 17 years, and now is the time for the increase.
The increase is coming because the county is also expanding its landfill. Johnson tells me they currently transfer their trash to Sumter County.
But he says that since they have additional space here already, it would help them save money by just expanding this landfill.
TV20 asked if the expansion is because of so many people moving to the area and leading to more trash, but he says this isn’t the case.
