WASHINGTON, D.C. — More people around the world feel safe walking alone at night than ever before, according to Gallup’s latest Global Safety Report . The survey found that 73% of adults say they feel safe in their communities, the highest level since Gallup began tracking the measure in 2006.

The increase comes despite a year marked by global conflict and uncertainty. Gains in perceived safety were driven largely by improvements in Asia-Pacific, Western Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa. For the first time, half of residents in Latin America and the Caribbean reported feeling safe walking at night.
