MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Shelby County School Board members discussed the potential closure of four schools due to board policy on Tuesday.

The action is part of the MSCS Facilities Framework action plan, which proposes several closures, consolidations, transfers, or repurposing of the school buildings.

Last year, MSCS began taking a closer look at buildings to determine whether some schools should be closed or consolidated.

It was the first time in a decade that the school district had conducted a top-to-bottom assessment of all 200 MSCS buildings.

At the time, then superintendent Dr. Feagins said MSCS has accumulated $1 billion in deferred maintenance while addressing aging infrastructure and air conditioning problems.
