RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A steady flow of people came to the Laurel Hills Community Center in Raleigh Tuesday for Raleigh-Durham International Airport's second of three public workshops on the future development of land near Lake Crabtree.

"The big thing is trying to make sure we align with what’s currently there," said RDU President & CEO Michael Landguth.

The RDU Airport Authority, which owns the land near Lake Crabtree, is planning to build a recreation and wellness destination on 136 acres of land that was previously home to popular mountain bike trails.

While nothing is set in stone yet about what will be built, potential ideas include whitewater rafting, ziplining, lodging and other uses.

"Could be a pretty unique experience for the citizens of this region," said Landguth.
