A school resource officer (SRO) assigned to James Wood High School has been terminated due to "improper contact with a student," Frederick County Sheriff Lenny Millholland confirmed Tuesday.

According to Millholland, the incident occurred Friday evening, and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office was made aware on Saturday morning.

"We immediately placed the school resource officer on administrative leave pending an investigation into the allegation," Millholland said. "We immediately made contact with the [Frederick County] Commonwealth's Attorney and social services to let them know what was going on."

As of right now, the individual is not facing criminal charges, according to Millholland, but the investigation is ongoing.
