ST PAUL, Minn. — Community leaders and some Minnesota state lawmakers came together in a public forum Tuesday evening to discuss strategies to prevent violence and promote peace. The event, hosted by the nonpartisan organization Twin Cities Nonviolent, aimed to spark dialogue between policymakers and local organizations, said Twin Cities Nonviolent executive director Karen Olson Johnson.
"A nonviolent community is, I would say, not devoid of all violence, but it is a community that is focused in working toward active nonviolence, which is providing the services that a family might need or a small community might need that would put stability in a home," Olson Johnson said. "Are we in the position as a community to lift each other up? That's what this event is about."
