COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The El Paso County coroner is warning of a drug she said is 100 times stronger than fentanyl and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.

The coroner, Dr. Emily Russell-Kinsley, issued a public safety warning about carfentanil. It’s a drug that has been used in the past in veterinary medicine for the sedation of large animals, like elephants. It was initially withdrawn from the U.S. market in the 1970s, according to the coroner.

In August, though, it was found in Colorado Springs when a man died and reportedly had the pills in his possession. They are blue pills marked with the letter M and the number 30, not unlike fentanyl.
