A joint investigation involving the federal privacy commissioner and his counterparts in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta has found that the measures put in place by TikTok to prevent the collection and use of children’s sensitive personal information for profiling and targeting purposes were inadequate.
TikTok has indicated that its platform is not intended for users under the age of 13, yet the investigation found that hundreds of thousands of Canadian children access the platform each year, and that TikTok is collecting and using their personal information.
