STONE COUNTY, Mo. -- A 20-year-old from Cape Fair, Missouri, was arrested by law enforcement after a man was shot in the abdomen on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The suspect, Chazz Harris, is charged with second-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, court records state.

According to the probable cause statement, witnesses told Stone County deputies that Harris was shooting firearms outside the home earlier that day. He later went inside and was handling a rifle when it discharged.

At this time, someone was standing outside the front door smoking a cigarette and immediately screamed that they had been shot. Harris then exited the home to check on the victim, left the handgun at a nearby residence and fled from the area on foot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital
