SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - September is Hunger Action Month, a month to help raise awareness for food insecurity in the nation.

Abbey Spears is with a number of different organizations in the area partnering with Julia Biggs at the Kitchen Collective. They are fighting food insecurity in Scioto County.

“So, right now we’re kind of in the beginning stages,” Spears said. “Initially, like I got set up with Julia so that way we can come in and volunteer. My, myself can come in and start working on preparing meals for distribution. So, our goal is to put together like a combination of both hot meals and, as well as like grab and go things. So that way folks have stuff that they can get a hot meal but also have something to take with them for later,” Spears said.
