COOS BAY, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Coos Bay District has reopened public lands surrounding the Doerner Fir tree following a recent wildfire. However, the Doerner Fir Trail remains closed to ensure visitor safety, BLM officials said.
The closure allows crews to assess fire impacts and perform necessary repairs.
“This area is especially popular with fall hunters and other recreationists, so we want to ensure it's safe and accessible,” said Tom Beaucage, Coos Bay District Manager.
The BLM plans to evaluate the Doerner Fir tree and trail area this winter to address any structural or safety concerns from the fire. Trail and handrail repairs will also be completed during this period.
