With just a few days left until Octobers 1st, the Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to use caution when out and using a tree stand.

Lt. Joe Molnar with the Michigan DNR says that hunters should always wear a full body harness that their are able to clip into their tree above their head in the stand, so hunters can connect into the lifeline as they go into their stand and leave.

Lt. Joe Molnar adds that hunters should check their stand before going out, because it could no longer be any good.

Another tip is uising a tow line to lift gear into your stand, including unloaded firearms and archery equipment after you’re situated.

It is also important to tell people where you will be, and be prepared if you can’t use a cellphone.
