Jean Dolores Schmidt, the Loyola University Chicago nun known as “Sister Jean” who became famous during the school’s March Madness basketball run, has retired.

Schmidt, a campus minister and the official chaplain for the Ramblers basketball program, retired from her roles shortly after she turned 106 years old on Aug. 21, the school’s newspaper, The Loyola Phoenix, reported earlier this month. She joined Loyola Chicago in 1991 and began serving as the men’s basketball chaplain in 1994, according to The Athletic .

Schmidt became a household name during Loyola Chicago’s run to the Final Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament as she was seen courtside cheering on the underdog Ramblers.
