CHATANOOGA, Tenn. (WATE) — An investigation is underway after a Chattanooga police officer fatally shot a man while responding to reports of a burglary Thursday morning, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

According to preliminary information released by the TBI, officers from the Chattanooga Police Department responded to a call about a burglary around 2 a.m. on the 2100 block of Hamill Road. When they arrived, they found Kevin Barnes, 44, trying to flee in a vehicle.

A police officer then shot Barnes "for reasons still under investigation," the TBI said. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.
