STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tom Tierney, the decorated former Tottenville Pirates head coach who won five PSAL city titles and four Coach of the Year honors from 2000 to 2016, has joined the College of Staten Island baseball coaching staff following his retirement from the Huguenot school, the program announced.

Before taking over as Tottenville’s head coach, Tierney spent five years as an assistant under his father, Tom Sr., himself a legendary figure in Pirates history.

Tierney began his own college playing career at John Jay before transferring to CSI, where he posted an impressive .504 batting average and 1.580 OPS. He still ranks among the program’s single-season leaders in batting average, hits, RBI, home runs, and slugging — making this a true homecoming for the former Dolphins slugger.
