Premier Doug Ford confirmed Thursday his government will introduce legislation in coming weeks to eliminate automated speed cameras in municipalities, including Belleville, across Ontario.
In a late-morning press conference from Vaughan, Ford said: “In a few weeks, our government will introduce legislation to ban speed cameras in Ontario to protect taxpayers and drivers and stop them from being gouged.”

The premier accused 37 of Ontario’s 440 municipalities of “making a quick buck” using speed cameras as a “cash grab.” New legislation if passed, he said, will prohibit speed cameras from exacting fines on motorists at a difficult time of tariffs and economic uncertainty when financial pressures are hurting everyone.
“Over the last few years, we’ve seen municipalities
