Independent MP Zali Stegall has been called a “defender of China” by Nationals Senate Leader Bridget McKenzie during a heated on-air clash over global emissions.

Global emissions have come under the microscope this week, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and US President Donald Trump giving starkly speeches at the UN headquarters on climate change policy.

Trump called global climate efforts a “con job” in his address to world counterparts, while Mr Albanese hailed his government’s recently announced 2035 emissions reduction target.
