BRAINERD — It wasn’t the opening to the 218 Tournament the Brainerd Warriors would’ve liked Thursday, Sept. 25.
The Bemidji Lumberjacks scored a goal in each half to earn a 2-0 Section 8-2A victory against the Warriors to open the fifth year of the 218 Tournament.
Shots were at a premium against the Lumberjacks' stifling defense. Brainerd recorded eight shots total with four on goal. They also generated just two corner kicks to Bemidji’s seven.
“I feel like we had the ball in their half of the field plenty, just never got it into the 18 much,” Warriors’ head coach Grant Gmeinder said. “Bemidji does a good job of keeping it tight and closing down gaps. It’s a good challenge to play against that pressure.”
Both of the Lumberjacks' goals came off corner kicks. The first one by Mya Thompso
