GRIFFITH — Sounds of Sarah, Supporting Addiction Free Environments for Lake County and the Griffith Police Department on Thursday evening hosted an overdose awareness open house as part of national Save a Life Day, which for the first time in its history had participation in every single state.

A few dozen people stopped by the pavilion throughout the evening on the northeast corner of Griffith's Central Park to learn about naloxone, the drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

"Even if we get 25 people (to come), that's 25 possible lives saved," said Patty Stovall, founder of Sounds of Sarah.

Her organization, created in 2022 after the loss of her daughter, Sarah, to fentanyl poisoning, works to raise awareness for the opioid epidemic and reduce the stigm
