CROWN POINT — A Joliet, Illinois, man was sentenced to six years in connection with a shooting and carjacking that stemmed from a car crash in 2019.
Ralph Bevineau, 30, will serve 18 months of his sentence in work release, 18 months on home detention and three years on probation. He was also ordered to complete substance abuse treatment and obtain his GED.
Bevineau's defense attorney, Lakeisha Murdaugh, said Bevineau has custody of his seven children and hasn't been able to work since he was charged because no one has been willing to hire him. He has stepped into the role of a full-time parent, Murdaugh said, and the children would suffer if he was incarcerated.
Bevineau pleaded guilty to robbery, a level five felony, and criminal recklessness, a level six felony. Leve
