LAPORTE COUNTY — Police let a New York man go on a drug-suspected traffic stop Tuesday afternoon but pulled him over again later in the day and eventually took him into custody after he fled on foot, setting off an overnight manhunt. Authorities found nearly 5 pounds of illicit drugs in the car, including fentanyl and heroin.

Carlos Velez-Angulo, of the Bronx, New York, was charged Thursday with felony dealing in a Schedule I and Schedule II controlled substance of at least 28 grams and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement. He has pleaded not guilty.
