IRONDALE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - It wasn’t long ago Irondale Police had trouble getting people to fill out employment applications. Now, Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. said people are “standing in line and waiting for openings.”
Mayor Stewart credits the turnaround in interest and retention to an emphasis on investing in public safety and making Irondale a place people want to live, work, and serve.
“Some days I want to become a police officer with all the wonderful benefits and the salary they currently make,” said Mayor Stewart with a smile.
Starting pay for an officer is $50,897 with potential earnings, depending on education, reaching $91,000. A corporal can earn as much as $95,000. Salaries increase with each rank.
