NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — A flood watch has been issued for the South Central Mountains area on Friday afternoon. According to the NWS, this watch is primarily focused on the Ruidoso burn scar area. The watch is expected to last through 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Excessive rain runoff could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying, or flood-prone areas. Creeks and streams could rise out of their banks. Areas with poor drainage or urban areas could experience flooding. Storm drains as well as ditches may become clogged with debris, and low-water crossings could be flooded.

Rainfall rates over one-half inch to one inch per hour, alongside repeated storm development, could cause flash flooding on nearby burn scars, possibly stretching late into Saturday night, according to NWS. Th
