COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

A donation garage sale was held at the Shadow Lake Towne Center on Friday with all proceeds going to Muddy Paws Rescue's parvo project.

Parvo is a contagious virus for dogs that's preventable through vaccination.

Volunteers said now is the time to act.

"Distemper parvo is just so deadly, and we lose a lot of little puppies and sometimes older dogs because they're not vaccinated, especially puppy litters. It's extremely important that they get those boosters and then it's once a year that you need," Janet Reeves said.

Muddy Paws holds a free monthly parvo clinic for those who can't afford the vaccination.
