ALA MOANA (Island News) -- Homelessness, crime and violence continue to plague religious leaders at the Shingon Mission of Hawaii.

"Almost on a weekly basis, we're threatened with either the ministers being harmed or the temple being burned down," said bishop Reyn Tsuru.

This is nothing new. In recent years, the temple has had to deal with everything from people stealing religious relics to defecating in the sanctuary. Last month, a man is shown here screaming at temple leaders.

"They actually threaten to either stab us or to punch us," Tsuru said. "They're random, aggressive people."
