Central Catholic’s offense was a little sluggish Friday night, but its defense shined.

In a showdown between the top two teams in WPIAL Class 6A, Central Catholic’s defense kept host North Allegheny out of the end zone and came away with a 21-6 victory in a Quad-County Conference game.

Central Catholic, the Post-Gazette’s No. 1 WPIAL team and No. 2 in the state, ran its record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. It was the first loss for North Allegheny (5-1, 2-1), the No. 2 WPIAL team.

Led by linebacker Roman Thompson, Central Catholic held North Allegheny to 148 total yards. North Allegheny had only 26 yards rushing on 37 attempts. That rushing total includes yardage lost on four sacks. North Allegheny had 122 yards passing.
