EAST GRAND FORKS — The Pelican Rapids Vikings needed a defensive stop with the game on the line.

They had to do so without their defensive coordinator.

On his way to practice on Tuesday afternoon, Ryan Beachy was in a motorcycle accident. He was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently making a recovery with eight shattered ribs on his right side, five on his left, four fractured vertebrae, a lacerated kidney, liver and punctured lung.

In the fading minutes of Friday's game, Pelican Rapids led 20-14, but East Grand Forks drove to the Vikings' 32.

Pelican Rapids forced back-to-back incompletions and knelt out the clock.
