TOWAMENCIN — Plenty of running back duos have been called thunder and lightning. The Detroit Lions have Sonic and Knuckles. North Penn has Rocky and Apollo.

A coach compared senior Matt Pownall and junior Rylei Gray to the two boxers from the Rocky films. If Friday night’s game against Central Bucks East was a heavyweight fight, then the two running backs won by knockout.

The two combined for 218 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-20 Suburban One League National Conference win at North Penn’s Crawford Stadium.

“We trusted our linemen,” Gray said. “We just have to read the holes. Our linemen made it happen this week… Without the line, I’m not anything.”

“Props to the line up front,” Pownall agreed. “It wouldn’t happen without them.”
