Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes has been kept in isolation away from other inmates since the attack on Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler on July 30.
Except for more than two weeks spent at Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County in August after displaying concerning behavior at the Danville City Jail, Buck-Hayes has spent his entire time in a 7-foot-by-5-foot isolation cell while in custody, said Danville Sheriff Mike Mondul.
“It’s not uncommon for someone, after a serious crime, to be put in isolation to see how they adjust,” Mondul told the Register & Bee.
Buck-Hayes, who faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding, spends most of his time reading and sleeping, Mondul said. He hasn’t complained about being in isolation, he added.
