Phoebus High School's pursuit of tying the state record for consecutive football wins fell just short Saturday, as Warwick delivered a stunning 34-20 upset in a rain-soaked Peninsula District showdown at Todd Stadium.

The Phantoms were aiming for their 52nd straight victory — a mark that would have matched the Virginia High School League record — but instead were met with heartbreak. Ironically, the pain came courtesy of Warwick's Jayden Singleton.

Singleton played a pivotal role in the defining moment of the game late in the third quarter. With Warwick clinging to a 20-14 lead and momentum shifting toward Phoebus after a grueling 8-minute touchdown drive, the Phantoms made a key stop in crunch time at their own 16-yard line.
