The win marks the Hokies’ second straight and opens ACC play with a 1-0 start — their fifth such start in the last six seasons. Tech improves to 2-3 on the season.
The Hokies opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 39-yard field goal from Love with 8:51 remaining. After NC State briefly took the lead, Tech responded with 10 unanswered points — including a touchdown by Hawkins — to head into halftime with a 13-7 advantage.
Virginia Tech’s defense held firm in the second half, limiting the Wolfpack to just 299 total yards on 66 plays and applying steady pressure throughout.
