Torrential rain and a relentless defense helped Old Dominion secure a 21-7 victory over Liberty on Saturday night at S.B. Ballard Stadium — marking the Monarchs’ 100th win since the football program’s return in 2009.

It was a milestone victory in more ways than one. Not only did ODU hit the century mark in wins, but the Monarchs also defeated an in-state rival that had dominated them in recent years. Liberty had won the last four meetings by a combined score of 173-61, with only one of those games being relatively close.

Now riding a three-game win streak — including their first-ever win at Virginia Tech earlier this month — the Monarchs improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2014.
