Police have launched a major investigation after a woman was gang raped in the grounds of a church in the early hours of Sunday.

The attack happened outside St Mary’s Church in in Banbury, Oxfordshire on September 28. Thames Valley Police said another woman is believed to have tried to intervene during the assault and are appealing for her to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mark Personius described the incident as a “horrific crime” and confirmed specially trained officers are supporting the victim, reports the Star.
