A shooting at a church in Grand Blanc, Michigan, has left one person dead and nine others injured. The incident occurred during Sunday services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Authorities reported that a 40-year-old man drove his vehicle into the church's front door before exiting and opening fire on the congregation.

Police Chief William Renye stated that the suspect also set the church on fire after the shooting. Flames and smoke were visible for hours as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. First responders are currently searching through the debris, and Renye indicated that they expect to find more victims. "We do believe we will find some additional victims once we find the area where the fire was," he said.

Scott Bennett, the supervisor of Grand Blanc Township, described the shooting and subsequent fire as a tragedy. He emphasized that it is an event that no community wants to face. As of now, police have not determined a motive for the attack or the fire.

The church is situated in a residential area, surrounded by a parking lot and a large lawn, and is located near a Jehovah’s Witness congregation. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her sorrow for the Grand Blanc community, stating, "Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable."

This tragic event occurred just a day after the passing of Russell M. Nelson, the oldest president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who died at the age of 101. Dallin H. Oaks is expected to succeed him as the next president of the church, following established protocols.
