A tick latches onto University of Dubuque biology student Paige Manning.

It’s not an uncommon experience for Manning. As a senior, she estimates more than 500 hours of her college career consists of finding and analyzing ticks.

This tick, however, was something new, KCRG reports .

“I didn’t even have any idea what it could be when I first saw it,” recalls Manning.

Manning shared the find with her professor, Dr. Kelly Grussendorf, head of the University of Dubuque Department of Natural and Applied Sciences.

“On the ride home, I was staring at the tick the whole time, trying to figure out if I could figure it out with my naked eye, but we had to get back to the microscope,” says Grussendorf. “
